The fee is not additional to the repair — it comes off it. If you go ahead with the work, the service call fee is applied toward the total. If you decide not to, the diagnosis is all you pay for.
What is not included
Parts and labour for the repair itself are quoted on site, after diagnosis and before any work begins. We do not publish a parts price list because the same fault on two different models can differ by an order of magnitude, and a made-up range would be worse than no range.
Why we publish the fee at all
Most appliance repair companies will not give a number over the phone. That is understandable — the repair genuinely cannot be priced before it is seen — but it leaves the customer unable to compare anything. Publishing the call-out fee gives you the one number that can be known in advance, and it is the number you are actually deciding on when you pick up the phone.
Deciding between repair and replacement
The diagnostic exists to give you a number to decide with. If the repair is close to the cost of a comparable new appliance and the unit is well through its life, we will say so. See residential repair for how that judgement usually goes.
